The only reason you should ever look down on someone is if you’re reaching out your arm to help them up.
im an atheist because i think that science is wonderful and reality itself is so mysterious and wonderful that there is no need to believe in a god
but if a philosophy and a belief system makes you appreciate life and makes you happy and you arent hurting anyone with it
then god damn no one should be a shit to you about it
How about we stop labeling people who point out how absurd supernatural beliefs are as being “a shit” towards people who hold those beliefs? It’s this kind of thinking that protects dangerously absurd beliefs, because “moderates” are trying to protect what they view as harmlessly absurd beliefs. Believing that infidels must be killed and believing that a cracker turns into Jesus Christ if you say the right latin words have different social consequences, but they are equally devoid of evidence and therefore absurd. I’m not going to not point that out because someone feels really happy when a priest puts a wafer in their mouth. Also, beliefs that seem so harmless as being “pro life” can become genocidal when they meet the HIV epidemic in Africa, where the Catholic church has decided to take the stance that AIDS may be bad, but condoms are surely worse.
I’m an atheist because there is no reason to be a theist (the faithful tacitly admit this when they accept the label “the faithful”). I’m not going to respect theism for no reason, and if pointing out how stupid a certain belief is counts as “being a shit” then I will forever be a shit, and the world would be a better place if everyone else were too.
